Oliver Neuville speaks the truth!
By: otto | January 9th, 2009
After extending his contract through June of 2010, dispelling rumours of a move to MSV Duisburg and FC Vaduz, captain Oliver Neuville sounded the charge:
“We’re bottom of the standings and the second half of the season will be tough. But I’m convinced that we’ll beat the drop. We’re just two points behind 15th place, we’ll make up that ground. We have new quality thanks to four new players and will use the winter break to build up a well-attuned team. We’ll make it.”
Along with Tomáš Galásek, he is the most experienced player and duly noted his role:
“We have a rather young team with very talented but inexperienced players. These players need support on and off the pitch, and I think that I can help them with my experience. The coach and the sporting director told me that they expect me to participate in that way, no matter if I play or not. And it’s a role that I can imagine.”
It is very clear the captains role and possibly raises the question of his career after his playing days come to an end. When questions of a move to MSV Duisburg or FC Vaduz came into question he not only silenced talk but mentioned that Mönchengladbach was his home and a place where he possibly sees his future after he stops playing.
