of Marko Marin

By: otto | March 4th, 2009

Unfortunately Football coverage, while to many seems “comprehensive” for anyone who plays it ranges from ridiculous to a meal just plain overdone. Often articles run that likely would be edited out if there wasn’t a need for “fresh online content” and someone was actually paying for print. In my opinion, I prefer articles on Football to be be about well, Football and not about distractions in life, low-brow comments from writers who never played or a multitude of commentary that seems to be there only to fill space.

Within Bild today, past the other articles best served lining a bird cage with, is a report that Marko Marin will leave Borussia at the end of the season. Although there is truth to the general idea, I wasn’t even aware this was news worthy given Borussia are at the bottom of the Bundesliga table and obviously one of the problems with relegation is losing top talent. However for those that review the article, there should be no shock as any club that faces relegation will have problems maintaining its top talent, particularly ones who have a future with the national team.

Now from another perspective the article also notes the Marin is upset with his play, how he is being used by Hans Meyer and there is a tone of resentment between the two. Separating fact from literary fiction, Borussia is in a fight to avoid relegation and after coming-in, the coach put together a plan with one goal in-mind; avoid the drop. That means a few tactical changes in short-run but something all players, young and old understand because you win as a team and fall as a team but let me say Football at a high level really is a camp singalong where we all hold on the rope and have oranges at the half. For those who play, you’ll likely nod in understanding but the task is not of an individual but of a team and for those who grace Borussia, you have a special honour. Finally, I don’t for a second doubt Marko’s loyalty to Borussia and he has issued a statement wondering how this article was concocted to further dispel this nonsense.
