Alexander Baumjohann to Bayern München
By: otto | February 3rd, 2009Gladbach has announced that midfielder Alexander Baumjohann will join Bayern München this summer on a free transfer. Signing a contract through June 2012 he told Kicker:
“I think anyone who plays football will appreciate that this is an attractive opportunity. I see it as a huge chance, I know what I can do – and I believe in myself. I trust in my ability to make it at Bayern, otherwise I’d never have taken up the offer. I’ll get my chance at some point, and then it’s up to me to take it.”
Actually I don’t think it is such an “attractive opportunity” to work with a coach who cares so little of Germany that he would commute from another country when he was the national coach but I will leave that up to him.

Maybe he’ll surprise everyone, but I think that he’ll end up like Jan Schlaudraff and other “failed talents” at Bayern. Hyped up for a short time, get signed by Bayern, win a Bundesliga title from the bench, then try to restart their careers at a club they should’ve joined in the first place. Too bad, but I guess there will always be players overconfident enough in their abilities to go for it. At least there are also those who are realistic enough and plan their careers step by step.
